Test of Cure Advice:

  • A test of cure should be offered to those patients who prefer the reassurance it offers
  • Test of cure should be routine in pregnancy
  • Test of cure should be performed a minimum of 5 weeks after the initiation of treatment (6 weeks if treated with Azithromycin) to avoid false positive result
  • Test of cure need not be performed in patients who have adhered to therapy and in whom there is no risk of re-infection

Section 1- Yes

  • Inform patient to avoid sexual intercourse for 1 week after they + partner(s) have completed treatment. Use condoms for a further 2 weeks thereafter
  • recent partners(s) will require testing +/- treatment
  • discuss partner notification (current partner + previous partner) or use referral facility as described SCI Gateway,  email, telephone or send referral form
  • encourage full sexually transmitted infection (STI)  screen at Highland Sexual Health (HSH) – Tel 01463 888300 (other outlying clinics available- phone for information)
  • distribute condoms + lube, also provide written information/leaflet
  • Offer Speaking to the Health Adviser see patient leaflets

Section 2- No

  • give appropriate treatment
  • inform patient to avoid sexual intercourse for 1 week after they + partner(s) have completed treatment. Use condoms for a further 2 weeks thereafter
  • recent partners(s) will require testing +/- treatment
  • in women and asymptomatic men, all partners from the last six months or the most recent sexual partner (if out with that time period) should be contacted
  • all patients treated for Chlamydia should be given a follow up interview within 2-4 weeks of treatment, to discuss adherence with therapy, risk of infection
  • a test of cure should be offered to those patients who prefer the reassurance it offers
  • re-testing should be recommended at 3-12 months, or sooner if there is a change in partner
  • INFORM THE HEALTH ADVISER AND SHE WILL UNDERTAKE PARTNER NOTIFICATION ON YOUR BEHALF
  • Refer to Highland sexual Health using SCI Gateway - using referral option HSH/PARTNER NOTIFICATION (preferred method of referral)
