Paediatric Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) Guidance

Initial investigations

In addition to investigations outlined in the DKA protocol, the following bloods also need to be checked at diagnosis:

  • Lab Glucose – one yellow Fluoride Oxalate tube
  • Coeliac antibodies and anti-GAD and IA2 antibodies – 2 white clotted/serum tubes
  • Thyroid function tests – one orange Lithium Heparin tube
  • HbA1c – one red EDTA tube
