Mycoplasma genitalium

  • Testing is not currently performed outside Sexual Health, though this may change.
  • Refer all cases to Sexual Health for management and partner notification.
  • Test +/- treat current partner(s).
  • Test of cure is recommended 5 weeks after start of treatment.

Drug details

Confirmed Mycoplasma genitalium infection, uncomplicated infection

Doxycycline 100mg twice daily, then follow with azithromycin as per below.

7 days

Followed by Azithromycin 1g stat then 500mg once daily for 2 more doses

for 3 days (2g) in total

If the organism is known to be macrolide-resistant or where treatment with azithromycin has failed, use for symptomatic patients (and their regular partner).  See EMEA and MHRA cautions on fluoroquinolone use and side effects

Moxifloxacin 400mg once daily
