Refer to SIGN 158 asthma guidance. Patients with severe asthma may be helped by magnesium sulfate (Minerals), off-label. After consultation with senior medical staff, magnesium sulfate 1•2 to 2 grams may be given by intravenous infusion over 20 minutes.
